Hotel Tertua di Jakarta

Teman-teman di Wisata Kota Toea memaparkan artikel menarik tentang hotel tertua di Jakarta:

PERNAH dengar nama Hotel Sriwijaya?

Why She Love Mad Men

Victoria Namkung is getting ready and excited for the third season of Mad Men

I love Mad Men. I’ve watched the the show since day one and am counting down till the season three premiere on August 16. And I’m not alone. The show has received 16 Emmy nominations, is a hit with critics and countless friends have recreated themselves in ’60s style thanks to the Mad Men Yourself application on their website. I think many of us wish we could live in that era even if for a day or two.

Well, I’m a “late adopter” of this Mad Men series. I’m still on Season 1. But, just like Victoria (and many others). I’m quite intrigue with this series. Maybe it’s the suits, the hairstyles or the fifties environment. I’m sold. Mad Men, welcome to Pat’s “Series to Watch” list. :)

PS: Huffington Post, please resize those stretched Mad Men pictures on that post

WriteRoom Reviewed

TUAW wrote a brief review of WriteRoom.

As writing tools go, WriteRoom is about as basic as they get. By default, you get green letters on a black background (see below). I mean a black background — the entire screen goes black, with just a green flashing cursor awaiting your typing.

As you might know WriteRoom is a writing tool for Mac that sole purpose is to help the writer focus on his/her writing. It features a plain basic text view without any disturbance in a form of chat window, e-mails, twitter, and others.

I wrote this blog post using WriteRoom, and it helps me focus on writing the post (rather than switch between Safari tabs)

For Windows user, you might try Q10 that had a similar feature like WriteRoom. Write on.

Things To Do While in Jakarta

Jakarta will always be my favorite city (despite all those traffic and constant chaos in the streets). Here’s a piece written by Aksara Sophiaan from AREA Magazine that list down some of the things you must do to experience Jakarta as a whole cultural bonanza. It’s like one of those “N things to do before you die” minus the die part ….

Known most for its heavy traffic, Jakarta is hardly a typical escapist destination and likelier to be recognized as an economic fortress of the nation. Regardless so, as a melting pot of a variety of culture, Jakarta is founded on the belief of universal functions and aesthetics–a philosophy expected to unify one of the most populated and diversed countries in the world.

by the way, I love this one:

11. Ride on an ontel bicycle to explore Jakarta’s old, historic places: Gedung Mandiri, VOC Galangan, Pelabuhan Sunda Kelapa and many others.

(thanks Icha! :D)

Hopenhagen is a movement created by the United Nations together with the International Advertising Association and a coalition of the world’s leading advertising, marketing and media agencies to empower global citizens to ensure the world’s leaders make the right choices for our planet and our future.

reNESED: Modifikasi mesin NES

Tweetie for Mac

I’ve been using Tweetie for Mac for about sometime now. I tossed Twitteriffic out of the context, since it’s not so fun anymore. Anyway, a native Twitter client supposedly faster than those cross-platform Air-based Twitter clients. So Tweetie is an app to go for me right now in a Mac environment.

Today, they release version 1.2. It supports video recording via iSight, fix some bugs, but brings back those weird white selection background, and they haven’t put any Twitter refresh API yet (I really need those, the default refresh time is way too long)

I still eager to wait for other breakthrough features to this sweet Twitter client app.

Season 5 and What’s Next

Well finally it’s a wrapped, the fifth season of Lost has ended after 17 thrill-riding episodes. I must say that it’s one of the best series of Lost to date. With the nature of time traveling problems which ignites my adrenaline to gruesomely wait episode after episode.

Oh well, the season finale episodes was quite a blast. Damon and Carlton sure knows how to end a season long story. My early excitements for this season has paid well. This season we got ourselves (we as in the fans) a great amount of answers to the some of the mysteries revolving around lost. A few worth mention: The Smoke Monster, the foot statue, the origins of the Dharma stations, the incident, and of course, Jacob.

I don’t want to show details of that, probably most of you haven’t seen it all (why are you still reading this, go watch season 5 now! :). But I can guarantee you that it is a great season indeed.

And, now what?

Now, we have to wait like 7-8 months to watch the last season of Lost. So another TV series is the answers to occupy myself and keep my sanity check so I won’t get insane waiting to find the answers from Lost.

While The Big Bang Theory, The Office US, and Smallville was off season, I have to pick a new right shows to fulfill my needs. True Blood (yeah I know, I’m coming in late to watch it) is okay, kinda like a true vampire stories with a twist (awh forget those sparkling vampire!).

And of course I still need to do a Battlestar Galactica marathon too, to the series finale that is (and yes, I’m a bit late for this too)

Gossip Girl? dear God forgive me for having try its first two episodes. It’s like Indonesia’s sinetron but with cuter and gorgeous cast. Erase…

Well, that’s the update alright. Excuse me while I finding myself ways to travel time to January 2010 to watch Lost. :)

and then.. she said, “Yes”

Well actually, I proposed her in the exact place where we met eight years ago. She didn’t realized at all (my plan had succeed) that that would be the historic night. And then, I gave her the speech and the proposal, and this tweet:

@witasoy stelah 8 tahun jalan bersama, saya ingin menghabiskan seluruh hidup saya (yg cukup aneh) ini bersama kamu. Will you marry me?

the plan is that she would answer it via twitter too. Un-fraking-fortunately, we got a bad GPRS connection (many thanks for that, Telkomsel!), so I (and actually many other tweeps), have to endure the long wait until she answered it. Well then eventually she said “Yes”. And me? I’m the happiest guy in the world that night.

Thanks for all of you who gave support and wishes and compliments. There’s still the next step. Well at least I know now, that she would be mine alone….

I love you Maria Dewi Purwitasari. I just love you.

PS: This is my all time favorite tweet. ever.

@jtug perkenalkan tunangan saya: Patrick Gerard van Diest a.k.a @patvandiest 😀 ^^ *tersenyum bahagia* #priceless
